Dubai: the perfect place for a meeting of global delegates

The Dubai Convention and Events Bureau (DCEB), a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), promotes Dubai as a dynamic host city for incentive travel, conferences, and business events. The bureau's mission is to increase Dubai's share of the international business events market, while maximizing the emirate's economic prospects in the process.

Dubai's location between East and West makes it the perfect place for a meeting of global delegates. With a strong history forged by its roots as an age-old trading entrepôt, Dubai today is a global hub from where one-third of the world's population is within a four-hour flight and two-thirds are within an eight-hour flight.

Strategic location

What makes Dubai more significant for international business travelers is that its strategic location, as a springboard into regional emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, is backed up with world-class infrastructure in terms of transportation, hotels, and meeting facilities.

The DCEB's main goal, in this context, is to establish the emirate as a premier business tourism destination by helping conference organizers plan and manage every aspect of an event. The DCEB's service standards are accredited by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) as part of the BestCities Global alliance of convention and visitor bureaus that deliver the world's best service experience for the meetings industry. As an organization, DCEB assists conference planners – completely free of charge – to organize their events through focusing on five key service areas, including Business event development, destination expertise, convention planning, attendance building and onsite event servicing.

Key international events

DCEB also works to attract key international events to the emirate, while growing visitor numbers at existing events and seeking out new business event opportunities through its network of international offices in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Within Dubai, the bureau's strong relationships with Emirates Airline, DMCs such as Arabian Adventures and top PCOs such as MCI Group and Meeting Minds means the bureau is able to offer a comprehensive suite of event services.

Every year, the DCEB secures a large array of major international conferences to be hosted in Dubai, most recently winning a bid to host the 2015 International Dragon Award Congress, the Chinese life insurance and financial services industry event that honors insurance and financial professionals. Furthermore, the emirate is set to host a variety of prestigious meetings this year, including the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) 2014 Annual General Meeting, the 2014 L'Oreal Business Forum and the 19th Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
