Which destination do city marketeers choose for their conference? Reykjavik!

Which destination to choose for your next conference? That can be a tough question. But where do city marketeers go for their conferences - they should know the fine spots, no? Well, in 2018, they chose Reykjavik for their Hack The City Conference.

From February 21-24, 2018, representatives of European cities in the fields of City Marketing, Meetings Industry and Tourism discussed how to 'Hack the City' during the European Cities Marketing Spring Meeting in Reykjavík, Iceland. Industry thought leaders challenged the attendees while, ideas and insights were shared on how destination management organisations (DMOs) all over Europe are morphing their business models.

Reykjavik, the 'northernmost' capital city in the world

European Cities Marketing (ECM) chose the vibrant city of Reykjavík, capital of Iceland and the 'northernmost' capital city in the world, as the perfect place for cities from all over Europe to talk on morphing DMO business models and engage the city.

About the organisation of the Meeting in Reykjavík, Dieter Hardt-Stremayr, ECM President, declared: 'We are certain that this meeting gave lots of inspiration to our members. All of this was delivered in Reykjavík - the best of places within our solar system to talk about the future! We explored a near future, where DMOs are the hackers too with the potential to drive the innovative change that will reshape the future of travel and urban space.'
